Big Boat Ruining World Trade Is Also A Hilarious Meme

The Suez Canal is a manmade waterway that runs through Egypt. It connects the Mediterranean to the Indian Ocean and is a crucial aspect of commercial trade. Right now, there’s a big ole boat clogging it up, and it’s basically a disaster.

The 400-meter-long container ship is called the Ever Given and it is currently stuck sideways, like someone who doesn’t know how to a K-turn on a narrow driveway.

It’s not just that the boat is stuck sideways, it’s run aground and there’s not enough water to maneuver it. At some point, a small tractor arrived to start digging the boat out and the contrast has made for some hilarious pictures.

It could take weeks for the Ever Given to be moved and that’s a huge problem. A backup of ships in the various seas and the canal itself have been waiting to get through.

Some have diverted to go another much longer directed around Africa. Other supplies are potentially being flown or sent by train, according to Reuters.

Most people not involved in the shipping trade probably haven’t ever given much thought to how perilous the whole enterprise is and on Twitter it’s become just another huge joke.
