‘Homophobic Cowboy’ Has Public Meltdown Over Pride Crosswalk

A group celebrating the installation of a rainbow-themed crosswalk for Pride had to deal with a “homophobic cowboy” losing his mind over the idea of inclusion.

The incident took place in Saskatoon, Canada, over the weekend. Video shows a man in a cowboy hat forcibly removing barriers set up around the drying paint and getting aggressive with those in the area asking him to stop.

“You don’t own this f—king property,” the man says to one person who blocks him from physically removing a barrier.

“No, but the city does,” someone else points out, letting him know that the installation was approved for this public space.

But the irate man just goes right back to snatching things up and causing a scene.

“You know what, you guys are getting absolutely stupid,” he says.

The person filming tells him that removing these items and harassing them is “not your place” and asks him again to leave.

“You know what? I will leave,” he says. “Because you guys are a bunch of assholes.”

The audacity of a homophobe to show up and cause that much trouble over a rainbow crosswalk and then call the group of people just trying to live their lives the assholes is something else, but ultimately pretty on point when it comes to how clueless folks like this tend to be.

“We’re lucky that in Canada, gender identity and sexual orientation is protected in law … but despite that, there is still a lot of violence, a lot of hate, a lot of misunderstanding,” Logan Roberts, who was present during the altercation, told CBC.

This is one of multiple similar incidents that’s happened across Canada in recent weeks as the world gears up for Pride month. A woman in Kemptville was charged with mischief after leaving tire tracks on a freshly painted rainbow crosswalk, allegedly on purpose. And secondary school students had to deal with their own Pride crosswalk getting defaced with homophobic slurs in Colwood last month.

As for the Saskatoon incident, the 71-year-old homophobic cowboy who believed the other folks around were the assholes found that he was the one left dealing with police who were called to the scene. He was ultimately arrested and charged with causing a disturbance, and is set to appear in court in November.
