A member of the folk-rock band Mumford & Sons is facing backlash after making some pretty questionable opinions he has known on social media.

Winston Marshall, best known for playing the banjo and once having been married to Dianna Agron, tweeted on Friday that he had “finally had the time to read [Andy Ngo’s] important book,” Unmasked.

“You’re a brave man,” he congratulated the right-wing troll.
While Ngo claims to be a journalist, like many right-wing provocateurs, he’s made it clear over the years that he’s happy to skew facts and twist narratives to suit his purposes, often being referred to as a grifter and an instigator of violence.
His book, with a lazy endorsement from Tucker Carlson on the cover, capitalizes on the right’s current fear of “Antifa,” with Ngo claiming that he is exposing their “radical plan to destroy democracy.”
As usual, it’s worth noting that “Antifa” is not an organization, and the term simply means anti-fascism — if people come out against that, you can simply remove the “anti” to figure out what they support.
Marshall’s support of the book was so out of nowhere that people at first thought it may have been sarcasm, but a quick browse through his “liked” tweets — filled with conservatives decrying censorship, nonsense from Ben Shapiro, and people dunking on the ACLU — suggests it was said with complete sincerity.

Former fans on Twitter readily shared their disappointment with Marshall’s stance.

And others were there to point out the issues with supporting anything from Ngo, let alone calling him “brave.”

Of course, plenty more were just ready to dunk on this self-destructive tweet.

American conservatives are already coming out claiming that the left is trying to “cancel” Mumford & Sons for Marshall’s view so this also seems like a great time to remind everyone that criticizing someone, declining to listen to their music, and/or simply dragging the hell out of them on Twitter is not “canceling” them. The world remains free to listen to as much mediocre banjo rock as they desire…if for some reason you actually want to do that.
