According to recent reports, former President Donald Trump and his wife Melania both received a vaccine for COVID-19 back in January, prior to leaving office — and people are stunned.

There’s nothing abnormal about a sitting president being vaccinated prior to the majority of the country. Members of Congress and other political leaders throughout the states were afforded the same opportunity so they could hypothetically continue doing their jobs safely.

What’s setting off alarms in this case is that Trump was vaccinated in secret.
As the coronavirus vaccine is being distributed across the world, there are still far too many Americans that are refusing to take it as they become eligible.
This is the moment we’ve been waiting for, the chance to finally turn the tide against the pandemic since infection rates skyrocketed over the past year thanks to anti-maskers and a politically divided response to virus safety. And yet, nearly half of Americans are still hesitant to get vaccinated.
No small number of those who are not only hesitant to get vaccinated themselves, but who continue to push various false conspiracy theories regarding the vaccine having a nefarious purpose are Republicans, specifically Trump supporters. And it stands to reason that seeing their leader get vaccinated back in January could have gone a long way towards changing some minds.

But the former president has walked a confusing line between anti-mask and anti-science when it comes to anything related to the pandemic vs taking credit for the vaccine development and any positive moves towards getting this thing under control in the United States.
So many people don’t feel like it’s a stretch to suggest Trump’s decision to keep his vaccination to himself while other politicians from both parties are busy reassuring their constituents that it’s safe by publicizing their own shots had everything to do with keeping his core anti-science base satisfied.

And it isn’t that surprising that Trump’s decision to secretly get the vaccine has gone against things he has said himself.

The former president did finally encourage people to get the vaccine during his speech at CPAC, but just like with his sudden turn towards wearing a mask a full five months into the pandemic, it just might be too little too late.
