Ben Shapiro Dunked For Lame Mother’s Day ‘Joke’ Aimed At Liberals

Ben Shapiro’s catching a new round of dramatic eye rolls after sarcastically wishing everyone a “Happy Birthing Persons’ Day” in response to a controversy conservatives drummed up last week.

In a speech to Congress on Thursday, Rep. Cori Bush spoke about the pain she had during her pregnancies, and ultimately promised to “protect black birthing people.”

Bush’s personal decision to be inclusive in her language, so as to not leave out people like transgender men or non-binary folks who have babies, or even simply surrogates who wouldn’t refer to themselves as a baby’s “mother” harmed no one, but conservatives latched onto the phrasing and acted as if it was some sort of war on women.

Shapiro decided to keep the non-controversy rolling with a Mother’s Day tweet that read:

“Happy Birthing Persons’ Day to all the egg-producing homo sapiens of unspecified gender who made the decision to bring to term a meaningless cluster of cells!”

It’s a lame attempt at a joke that ultimately does nothing more than highlight the right’s hyper-focus on policing other people’s identities, and people were quick to comment as much.

Shapiro wasn’t the only person to pull out a “birthing person” mention on Mother’s Day, wrongly assuming that the terms are interchangeable.

Hopefully people like Shapiro got their own mothers something other than faux outrage over something completely innocuous for the holiday!
