Donald Trump Jr. may be pushing for an argument he doesn’t realize is popular among the real political left in the U.S. by making the claim that the nation’s military is too “woke” while revealing that he thinks the AAVE term means having pink hair, being queer, and believing that Black people and their lives matter. The son of the former president recently posted an altered image of General Mark Milley with a pink dye job with a rainbow flag, a Black Lives Matter logo, and hearts and sparkles on his Instagram account.

“I don’t know why everyone keeps saying the Army is ‘woke,’” the overlay text reads. “I’m offended.”

This image is the result of right-wing hysteria over Critical Race Theory, a specific theory on racism and white supremacy in the U.S. typically taught in Masters programs, as conservatives take up the false claim that it’s being taught to kids as early as in public elementary schools. In response to accusations that the United States Military Academy teaches a course on the subject, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley asked why not?
“I want to understand white rage, and I’m white. I want to understand it. So what is it that caused thousands of people to assault this building and try to overturn the Constitution of the United States of America?” he said. “What is wrong with understanding, having some situational understanding about the country for which we are here to defend?”
The idea of understanding things sent people like Don Jr. further into their hysteria. After so many years of defending the U.S. military machine no matter how big the budget, no matter its carbon footprint outpacing that of entire nations, no matter how numerous the war crimes, it seems that Republicans are finally ready to attack their baby.
The left, meanwhile, is watching with delight and just waiting for calls to defund the military—something they’ve been after for many decades as the poor continue to suffer and our infrastructure decays—for being too progressive.

Don Jr. and his intellectual equals have been bizarrely attacking the massively beefed-up U.S. military for months now, starting with Tucker Carlson going after them for highlighting pregnant soldiers in uniform. Conservatives have since been laser-focused on rooting out any hint of “wokeness,” or sign that they’ve made even the smallest effort to keep up with the times.
Regardless of your view on the U.S. military, many Trump critics have taken to pointing out what is an indisputable fact—that both Don Jr. and Carlson served exactly zero time in the thing they’re now routinely trashing.
