A baseball game between the New York Yankees and the Toronto Blue Jays was briefly interrupted by a banner drop by some Trump supporters who snuck in a large flag proclaiming that “TRUMP WON” on Thursday and got about the reaction they should have expected from a stadium full of New Yorkers. Video captured by one game attendee lets you hear what it sounds like when a limited capacity Yankee Stadium fills up almost entirely with booing, only to be lit up with cheers as security confiscated the banner.

“A couple fans at Yankee Stadium just unveiled a massive banner that reads ‘Trump Won Save America,’” wrote Sports Illustrated reporter Max Goodman. “Sounded like the entire crowd was booing until security confiscated the banner, which then resulted in a loud cheer.”

You can also see someone in the stands below early in the footage climbing on top of the seats in order to try and snatch the banner down, and is nearly successful before the Trump supporters notice and pull it up out of his reach. Good effort, though.

According to reports, two men were detained and ejected from the stadium for dropping the banner. It took several security guards to take the banner away from the men, who will probably be on Fox News later complaining their freedom of speech was violated.

Yankee Stadium has a clearly-stated policy on what banners they allow on their property and where, including that they must be “baseball-related” and that any signage “may be removed, at any time, at the sole and absolute discretion of the Yankees.”

Photos taken by other game attendees show New Yorkers giving the finger to the banner in classic New York form, and others have confirmed that it was met largely with boos until security took it away from the Trump supporters.

Stunts like this are unsurprising following recently published polls showing that a strong majority of self-identifying Republicans believe that Joe Biden’s 2020 win was “not legitimate,” claiming the election was rigged in spite of zero evidence materializing to support this over multiple investigations. Over half also reported that they believe Donald Trump remains the true president of the U.S., though it’s not entirely clear how QAnon those individuals are or if they just think that Trump won the election.

A not-uncommon QAnon conspiracy theory states that Trump is secretly still running the country from the White House and that what we’ve seen of Biden has been filmed in a Hollywood studio or something.

The rest of us can take a modicum of comfort in the fact that there was a bit of sanity on display at Yankee Stadium on Thursday, if only in response to the opposite.
