The toilet paper panic at the beginning of the pandemic was ridiculous enough, and certainly caused people to behave in a bizarre manner, but the gas shortage that lasted all of five seconds took things to the next level.

People in certain parts of the United States took to stocking up on gas after a ransomware attack caused the Colonial Pipeline to briefly shut down — despite the government’s best efforts to reassure people that there wouldn’t be a shortage. But as with toilet paper, people didn’t listen, and actually caused a shortage in some areas with their hoarding.

Of course, not long after, the pipeline resumed operation, and folks were stuck with a whole bunch of gas that they couldn’t possibly need any time soon.
Considering gasoline is a dangerous, toxic, and highly flammable substance, it’s easy to see how a bunch of people with no prior knowledge about storing it could run into trouble here.
An AskReddit post wanted to check in on how those folks are doing now and, well, it’s not going great.

Some of the posts migrated to Twitter and people had even less patience for the gas hoarders than they did the folks hoarding TP and meat and whatever else last year.
