A Colorado man who is facing charges of first-degree murder after his wife mysteriously disappeared reportedly admitted to the FBI that five months after she went missing, he cast a vote for Donald Trump under her name via absentee ballot. Investigators have now added voter fraud charges on top of the pile of crimes he’s accused of, including tampering with evidence and attempting to influence a public servant, as well as the murder charge.

Barry Morphew confessed to casting the illegal ballot in October 2020 because he “figured all those other guys are cheating” and assumed that his wife Suzanne “was going to vote for Trump anyway,” according to local news reports. Or she would have, presumably, if she had ever come back from that bike ride she went on just over a year ago.

“I just wanted Trump to win,” said Morphew. “I just thought, give him another vote.”

Barry seemed to echo the Republican-backed conspiracy theory that Democrats somehow rigged or interfered with the 2020 election in order to ensure Joe Biden’s victory over Trump, which the ex-president himself pushed harder than anyone. Some Trump-supporting Republicans in certain states are still fighting that fight, such as in Arizona where a battle over an audit of the presidential vote count has the party split in two.
It’s gotten to the point that Stephen Richer, Maricopa County recorder and Republican, is near out of his mind.

As Trump Republicans continue to search for the fabled evidence of Democratic voter fraud, stories of small cases of exactly that coming from Trump supporters have popped up time and time again. Morphew’s case is particularly notable considering the fact that he might have murdered the person whose name he wrongly used on a ballot.
Morphew claimed to be out of town on the day that his wife disappeared, prompting a neighbor to report her missing when she didn’t return from a Mother’s Day bike ride. Her body was never found, but the bike and some “personal items” were recovered. Barry later released a video begging his wife to come home, pleading with anyone who might have abducted her, and urging anyone with information to contact the FBI tip line.

“Oh Suzanne, if anyone is out there that can hear this, that has you, please, we’ll do whatever it takes to bring you back,” Morphew says in the video. “We love you. We miss you. The girls need you. No questions asked. However much they want, I will do whatever it takes to get you back. Honey, I love you. I want you back so bad.
On May 5, 2021, he was arrested on murder charges. He will appear in court on May 27 for an advisement and bond hearing.
