Rep. Matt Gaetz has pretty much announced that if Donald Trump doesn’t run for president in 2024, though all indications say he will, the congressman will step up to challenge incumbent Joe Biden. Gaetz revealed his intentions on his Twitter account by quote tweeting a New York Post article that brings up the federal probe into his alleged sex trafficking of multiple young women as well as at least one underage girl.

“I support Donald Trump for president. I’ve directly encouraged him to run and he gives me every indication he will,” Gaetz told the Post. “If Trump doesn’t run, I’m sure I could defeat whatever remains of Joe Biden by 2024.”

Announcing his intentions to run for president via the New York Post while reminding people about investigations into his sex crimes does indeed make Gaetz seem like a highly appropriate replacement for Donald Trump.
Trump has given every indication that he will run again in 2024 against Biden in spite of solidly losing to the current president in 2020 and being banned from all major social media platforms for inciting the insurrection of January 6. The current Florida man has attempted to remain relevant through messages issued through his weird “Office of the Former President” and has retained a fiercely loyal following on the far right, with nearly half of U.S. Republicans believing him to be the rightful or “real” president.
When asked by Fox News in April if he was considering another run, Trump assured them that he was very seriously looking into it.
“Yes, 100 percent,” he said. “And the polls show that everybody wants me to do it. One hundred percent I’m thinking about running and we will, I think, be very successful.”
Gaetz, meanwhile, has struggled under the allegations that he was involved in a sex trafficking operation, particularly after his cohort in the operation started working with federal investigators as part of a plea deal. This wingman, Joel Greenberg, even wrote multiple drafts of a confession letter heavily implicating Gaetz in a bid to gain a blanket pardon from Trump, which never materialized in spite of help from Roger Stone.
The congressman has not yet been hit with any charges as the investigation continues, but there is zero chance anyone on the left is going to let him forget about it.
