A Tennessee pastor is pushing the absurd claim that “political elites” are only pretending to get vaccinated against COVID—and his churchgoers are buying it.

A clip of Greg Locke of Global Vision Bible Church circulated Twitter on Sunday, showing the enthusiastic Bible-thumper warning his congregation with his conspiracy theory.
“If you think for one minute that those political elites actually got that vaccination, you are smoking meth in your mama’s basement,” he said. “Bunch of fake liars is what they are. They didn’t shoot nothing in their arm but a bunch of sugar water.”

He went on to bash companies that are going to require employees to be vaccinated and offered to write “religious exemptions” for anyone who doesn’t want the jab.
“We will sue their pants off!” he screamed to a cheering crowd. “This is America! Not China!”
This isn’t the first time Locke has pushed conspiracy theories and blatant falsehoods on anyone lost enough to listen to him. He was also a big fan of Donald Trump’s lie that the election was stolen from him, and was among those who continued to insist Trump would somehow magically remain president.
That didn’t work out so well for him, as it was completely false, and his claim that politicians are injecting sugar water rather than a COVID vaccine similarly has no basis in reality.

But religion thrives where fear is rampant, so it’s no surprise Locke would be keeping his congregation under his thumb by claiming to be the only one telling them the truth while everyone else is out to get them. Once they’ve fallen for his claim that God is working through him, there’s no limit to what he can sell them on.
