Disneyland is giving Jessica Rabbit a new look and role in its Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin attraction, leading some angry fans to complain about the park being too “politically correct.”

The ride previously featured Jessica as a damsel in distress, having her first appear tied up and being shoved into the trunk of a car. The new iteration looks like it will see her become a detective, based on a poster said to be part of the queue for the revamped attraction.

Narratively speaking, the update feels more in line with Jessica’s role in the movie the Car Toon Spin is based on, Who Framed Roger Rabbit? In the film, Jessica is a nightclub singer married to Roger Rabbit and helps clear his name after he’s framed for murder.

But critics of the changes have complained that taking the cartoon character out of the trunk of a car and putting her, at least in one picture, in a trench coat is a result of Disney trying to be too politically correct.

It’s seeming more and more like anthropomorphic female cartoons that men were attracted to as little boys can never have any alterations made to their characters in any medium in future releases without people throwing a fit over “cancel culture” or bemoaning corporations becoming “woke.”

Meanwhile, male characters get new wardrobes, new drawing styles, and new jobs all of the time without much notice — look at basically any comic character that’s stuck around for more than ten years.

It’s unclear as of yet if Jessica will be wearing a trench coat throughout the entire attraction, but considering it’s also being updated to center around her character, it feels like she may have a wardrobe change or two throughout.
