In case you didn’t notice, the highly anticipated “Justice for January 6th” rally came and went over the weekend without much of anything to speak on other than the fact that the turnout was, shall we say, “sad.” Police forces and media seemed to outnumber attendees who faced high security and fences preventing them from getting anywhere near the Capitol in anticipation of what many feared would be a sequel to the attempted coup that took place early this year.

Capitol police expected around 700 to attend but were faced with just 400 to 450 people, with some media outlets reporting even fewer, utterly dwarfed by the size of the original January 6 crowd that breached the building where congress was certifying the 2020 presidential election results. There were a few arrests during the weekend rally, including one Customs and Border Patrol employee who brought a handgun, as the Trump fans expressed their support for the hundreds who have been arrested and charged for participating in the Capitol riot.

The low turnout drew widespread mockery from those who are not fans of Donald Trump or attempts to install him as a dictator in a country that’s supposed to be all about freedom, as well as sighs of relief from those who watched the original riot unfold in horror. Mark Hamill, star of the original Star Wars films and avid Trump critic, was one of many who chimed in to take a jab at the follow-up rally’s public failure by comparing the crowd size to those at exclusive Star Wars fan club meetings.

“Yesterday’s so-called ‘Justice For January 6th’ Rally was a complete flop,” he tweeted. “I’ve seen bigger crowds at meetings of the Star Wars Holiday Special Fan Club.”

For those too young or hip to be aware, The Star Wars Holiday Special was a TV special that aired in 1978, between the releases of the first Star Wars film and The Empire Strikes Back, which drew more viewers than attendees to this rally but was enjoyed by very few. Comparing the Justice for January 6th rally to this special is pretty much the biggest nerd burn one can wield.

Many commenters agreed with Hamill’s assessment of the rally, though a surprising number chimed in to defend The Star Wars Holiday Special and it’s holiday-themed Wookie-focused adventure.
