Texas representative Dan Crenshaw invited more than his fair share of mockery last week after asking for “whistleblowers” to come forward about the military.

Now, usually when you think of whistleblowers informing about the military, you’d think of corruption or illegal ops or covering up crimes against their own ranks or foreign civilians. However, what Crenshaw is hoping to gain dirt on is…”woke ideology.”

American conservatives have taken a confounding strategy of launching attacks on our own military as of late, ranging from Ted Cruz praising the Russian military while putting ours down to complaints about using gender-neutral pronouns when referring to the Navy SEAL ethos to Crenshaw’s latest crusade.

“Enough is enough,” he wrote on Twitter. “We won’t let our military fall to woke ideology.”

He went on to complain that “progressive Pentagon staffers have been calling the shots for our warfighters, and spineless military commanders have let it happen.”

“Now we are going to expose you,” he warned.

Crenshaw and fellow Republican, Senator Tom Cotton, launched an actual website for military personnel to submit these complaints, and anyone who has spent more than five seconds on the internet can already guess how this has backfired.

It wasn’t long before people were submitting fake stories to the website and sharing their responses on Twitter.

Others used the opportunity to call Crenshaw’s own behavior into question.

But while the trolling and the mockery is all fun and games, there were some who served in the military and had things to report that guys like Crenshaw don’t want to hear, insisting instead, as usual, that the root of all issues is “wokeness.”

Whatever problems the United States military has, including liberals and instituting policies that take into consideration more than just straight white men isn’t among them. But with conservatives like Crenshaw, Cotton, and Cruz engaging in this new trend trying to discredit and publicly shame what they’ve called an “emasculated” military, ultimately all they’re doing is stirring up divisiveness and pitting service members against each other. So what’s the real threat, again?
