Texas is having a hard time with the weather again, and Senator Ted Cruz is having a hard time with his past self again, in a saga that never seems to end. After promising to get its energy infrastructure up to speed following the mass power outages during the ice storms and subsequent freeze that left dozens of people dead, the state is now asking its residents to conserve power amid more blackouts caused by intense heat and wildfires.

“The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) is asking Texans to reduce electric use as much as possible today through Friday, June 18,” a recent statement reads. “A significant number of forced generation outages combined with potential record electric use for the month of June has resulted in tight grid conditions.”

Obviously, this announcement has many people once again poking fun at Ted Cruz for the time when he tried to run off to Cancun for a vacation while his constituents froze and died. But it got even worse for him when his critics dug up a tweet from the summer of 2020 in which he mocked the state of California for a similar energy conservation request, accusing it of being “unable to perform even basic functions of civilization.”

“Biden/Harris/AOC want to make CA’s failed energy policy the standard nationwide,” Cruz wrote.

Either Biden/Harris/AOC were remarkably successful, or Cruz and the other Republicans running Texas have failed to get their energy system to a point that it could handle heatwaves, which are a fairly common event in the U.S. South, unlike ice storms. They could at least acknowledge climate change is a problem if they don’t want to fix their infrastructure themselves.

Regardless, Cruz’s old tweet is going through a new round of ratio, with many quote tweeting it to make sure the senator knows that he is seen.

Cruz has done nothing to address the poor aging of this tweet, and in fact, hasn’t said anything at all about the energy crisis facing his state yet again due to extreme weather events he refuses to admit are a problem. Perhaps he’s too busy reciting the Pledge of Allegiance to every American flag he comes across all day.
