If you’re on the internet in modern times, you understand what a “Karen” is. Although the definition has become broader and broader as it catches on, its original popular usage as a catch-all name referred to entitled women, usually white, who demanded to speak to the manager or called the police over something trivial.

And ever since it become a term so many people know and use casually, the people actually named Karen in the world have been acting like Karens, demanding that everyone stop using their names in such a fashion.
A video from February is gaining renewed attention for calling out Karens who lived up to their names.

Coffee Dose dropped a sign on the sidewalk outside of their storefront reading “No Karen, you can’t talk to the manager” as a joke.
But apparently one woman named Karen was so incensed by their usage of the name that she posted a plea to boycott the shop in a Facebook group specifically for women named Karen.
“And then the most ironic thing that could’ve possibly happened…happened,” reads the text overlay on the video, before cutting to a string of screenshots of angry messages and one-star reviews for Coffee Dose on Yelp — all from people named Karen.
The video stirred up some attention back when it was first posted, with at least one person even comparing calling someone a “Karen” to “using the N-word.” And while things haven’t quite devolved to that point yet, the repost from @therealkarenshub is bringing some strong opinions on both sides as well.
“The ‘Karen’ insult turned into a socially acceptable way to silence ANY woman that speaks her mind,” claimed @0eattherich0.
“In all fairness, when your name becomes a derogatory term, I’m sure it becomes pleasant,” @stopcallingmefartknocker added. “Psychologically it must do something. Let’s be honest.”
Others were on the side of the coffee shop, with @eliza.discover saying she would definitely patronize a business if she saw a bunch of one-star reviews from Karens.
“As a woman named Karen irl I approve of this store and the merch,” agreed @gostrien.

Sorry Karens, the more you complain, the longer it will probably take for this trend to die down. And no, a manager won’t be able to help you with that.
