Trump May Be Planning Rival Media Company To “Wreck” Fox News

The reason for Donald Trump’s continued attacks on Fox News, aside from them being the first to call Arizona for Joe Biden, seems to be becoming clear if anonymous sources speaking to Axios are correct. According to “a source with detailed knowledge of Trump’s intentions,” the outgoing president is considering building his own right-wing media empire to “wreck Fox.”

Trump has attacked Fox News multiple times during his presidency for not always toeing the line, and since they called Arizona for Biden, he seems to have turned his back on them entirely. In spite of over four years of mostly devotional support from the network, he tweeted today claiming that their ratings have “completely collapsed” because they “forgot the Golden Goose.”

Trump may be laying a large part of the blame for his loss on Fox News, claiming them to be the “biggest difference between the 2016 Election, and 2020.”

Now, Axios sources are saying that Trump is considering a digital media company to bypass the expenses associated with cable news. The online channel would likely come with a monthly fee to directly compete with the Fox Nation streaming service, eventually looking to steal their viewers and replace the network.

One of the sources claimed that he plans to use his upcoming “vote count rallies” to trash Fox News in preparation for his transition to news media. “He’s going to spend a lot of time slamming Fox,” the source said.

If the rumors are true, Trump will face competition against some of the news networks he’s praised in recent years as an even farther right alternative to Fox, including OANN and Newsmax.

There has been speculation on and off through much of Trump’s presidency that he would go back into media once his time in the White House was up. Fox Corp. CEO Lachlan Murdoch even addressed concerns about his creating a rival company in an earnings call on Election Day.

“We love competition. We have always thrived with competition,” he said. “Fox News has been the number one network, including broadcast networks, … from Labor Day through to Election Day.”
