Usually when an actor makes headlines for cursing out their crew, it reflects poorly on them — a famous millionaire berating the people who work tirelessly to make their movies happen? Nah, no one wants that. But leaked audio in which Tom Cruise lays down the law for some Mission: Impossible 7 crew members who were flouting COVID safety regulations has people declaring their respect for the actor.

Film production sets have implemented strict COVID protocols that have to be followed by all cast and crew. If an outbreak happens, a film can get shut down for days or even weeks — a costly endeavor that we’ve seen happen with Jurassic World: Dominion and The Batman, to only name two. Plus, there’s the part where a dangerous disease could cause serious health problems or even death for the people involved.

So when Cruise allegedly saw two crew members flouting those safety protocols, he lost it.
“I don’t ever want to see it again, ever!” he yelled. “If I see you do it again, you’re f—king gone… That’s it. No apologies. You can tell it to the people that are losing their f—king homes because our industry is shut down.”

The two and a half minute rant made it obvious that Cruise is concerned that if such a high-profile, high-budget production — one that has the financial ability to cover all the COVID precautions without secretly cutting corners — can’t set a good example for how films can safely be made while the pandemic continues, it will prevent other productions from happening, and cost more people work.
“That’s what I sleep with every night. The future of this f—king industry! So I’m sorry if I am beyond your apologies,” he said.
His rant was largely met with applause by people online who were surprised to hear a celebrity going off for the right reasons.

And plenty found it inspirational for how the world should deal with COVID-deniers and anti-maskers in day-to-day life.

Hopefully there are no more incidents on the Mission: Impossible set, because being on the other side of Cruise yelling does not seem like a pleasant experience for anyone. But, then again, neither is getting COVID-19.
