Donald Trump is now going after his own staunch allies for daring to accept that the 2020 election is over, particularly after the Electoral College tally was certified for Joe Biden.

Trump even attacked Mitch McConnell, the guy who kept the Senate from doing anything Trump might not have liked for four years, in a tweet quoting a Daily Mail article claiming that other Trump allies are doing the same.

“Trump’s allies slam Mitch McConnell for congratulating Biden,” the outgoing president wrote. “Mitch, 75,000,000 VOTES, a record for a sitting President (by a lot). Too soon to give up. Republican Party must finally learn to fight. People are angry!”
The people noted as “Trump’s allies” in the article include Nicholas J. Fuentes, a man who self-identifies as a nationalist and who was kicked off of YouTube for spewing too much hate speech. Fuentes, along with far-right figures like Sebastian Gorka and Michael “Let’s Do Martial Law” Flynn, went after McConnell following the Senate majority leader’s speech congratulating Joe Biden on his official victory.

“Many of us hoped that the presidential election would yield a different result, but our system of government has processes to determine who will be sworn in on January 20,” McConnell said in a floor speech. “The Electoral College has spoken. So today, I want to congratulate President-elect Joe Biden.”
McConnell followed this up with plenty of kissing up to Trump for “victories” like gutting the Affordable Care Act and his bellicose Iran policies that had people swearing about World War III. Still, it clearly wasn’t enough for Trump, who demands total loyalty from his toadies or else throws them out into the cold.
McConnell, it seems, is smart enough to know when it’s time to jump ship. According to the Daily Mail article Trump shared, the senator warned his fellow Republicans that continuing to fight the presidential results could cost them the runoff races in Georgia, which will determine which party controls the Senate.
If that happens, Biden could make good on even some of his loftier promises, including canceling some student debt and maybe doing something about climate change.

Regardless, Trump has continued to deny the results and tweet unfounded claims from far-right OAN.
