Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Neighbors Take Legal Action To Stop Him From Living There

The people who have to live next to Donald Trump’s Florida golf resort Mar-a-Lago are not happy about rumors that the outgoing president might just move in there and refuse to leave. They’re so against it that they have made legal moves to block Trump from living there, citing an agreement he signed in the 1990s that bars anyone from staying at the resort for over 21 days per year or for over seven days in a row.

Trump has already changed his official residence to Mar-a-Lago so that he could vote out of Florida, where he finds a high proportion of supporters than in Washington D.C.

The Mar-a-Lago neighbors, however, got together to send a letter to Palm Beach via an attorney demanding that the town tells Trump he can’t live there. This, they say, would “avoid an embarrassing situation” that might occur if the town has to order him to move later after he stays past the 21-day limit.

“There’s absolutely no legal theory under which he can use that property as both a residence and a club,” said homeowner Glenn Zeitz. “Basically he’s playing a dead hand. He’s not going to intimidate or bluff people because we’re going to be there.”

The neighbors are reportedly led by the DeMoss family, who are largely Evangelical Christian and are known for running an international missionary foundation that gives generously to “Christian and conservative causes.” They’re not worth celebrating, but it’s always fun when Evangelicals turn on Trump after largely supporting him over the last four years.

Multiple Mar-a-Lago neighbors have complained about the Trump property for clogging streets with blockades and traffic every time the outgoing president shows up as well as frequently breaking local ordinances. At one point, they blatantly broke structure height limits by erecting a massive flagpole on the resort grounds, which is one of the most Trump things we’ve personally ever heard.

A spokesperson for Trump’s business concerns denies that the outgoing president signed any agreement that would prevent him from living there for more than three weeks. However, The Washington Post reports that he did indeed sign such documents in 1993. In spite of this, he’s spent at least 130 days there this year and has even said he maintains a private residence at the resort.

Palm Beach has let this happen without a peep, but without his presidency and with powerful neighbors complaining, that might soon come to an end.

“Hopefully his base of fans will hang out in Palm Beach cheering from the roadside as he passes 24/7,” remarked one Twitter commenter, “the residents there will love that… love it I say.”
