26 Tweets Mocking Mitch McConnell For Blocking Vote On Stimulus Increase

December 30, 2020, 7:41 am

When the bill to increase stimulus payments from $600 to $2000 passed in the House of Representatives, no one who pays even the slightest attention to politics expected it to get any further.

Mitch McConnell — a man elected only by some people in Kentucky — has a stranglehold on the Senate, which means he has a stranglehold on America, and nobody even remotely expected him to do something that would benefit Americans after nearly a year of refusing aid during a pandemic.

And sure enough, when the time came, McConnell first blocked the call for a unanimous vote on the checks before blocking Bernie Sanders’ call to vote on the increase Wednesday, instead offering up vague promises to “begin the process” of dealing with it at some unspecified point in time. Perhaps some might suggest he’s waiting until after the Georgia Senate race so Republicans won’t face backlash over voting against the increase.

Despite the fact that none of McConnell’s obstructions here are surprising, people are still angry. This is money that would help out Americans who have been financially screwed over by both the pandemic and a government that has failed to provide adequate aid throughout 2020, and it’s an increase supported — even demanded — by President Trump himself.

So that frustration and anger over the $1400 we are unlikely to see as long as McConnell has his way are directed, rightly, at the senator himself.

Despite the seriousness of the matter, Twitter has taken to expressing that disgust with McConnell in the way it knows best — through memes and mockery.

None of these tweets will make up for that missing cash, but sometimes dunking on a guy who should have lost his job a long, long time ago is the best we can do.
