Anti-Masker Cites Asthma As Medical Exemption, But A Cop Sets Him Straight

Despite what anti-maskers would have us believe, reputable scientists and doctors have repeatedly said there are very, very few medical conditions that actually make it even the tiniest bit dangerous for people to wear masks.

But still, some try their best to claim medical exemptions when they’re confronted with a reminder of local mask mandates while in public. And sometimes, it backfires spectacularly in their faces.

A man in the U.K. learned this the hard way after he got casually schooled by a police officer upon refusing to wear a mask.

Video posted to Reddit last week and recorded by the anti-masker himself shows the embarrassing confrontation.

Right at the start, the anti-masker complains to the officer that he’s already showed him his inhaler, attempting to use his asthma as an excuse for why he can’t wear a mask. But the officer doesn’t waste a moment in pulling out his OWN inhaler.

“And I’ve shown you mine,” he says from behind his mask.

The anti-masker insists that having asthma means he’s not obligated to wear a mask, refuses to give his name, and repeatedly asks what he’s being detained for despite the officer telling him again and again that it’s for not wearing a mask.

The back-and-forth lasts for an exhausting 8 minutes, most of which consist of the anti-masker insisting that the officer stopping him to give him a citation is assault.

Many people on Reddit chimed in to talk about wearing a mask with asthma — and how it doesn’t actually present a challenge at all.

“I would think if you have asthma, since an attack can start because of outside irritants, a mask would be, if even ever so slightly, beneficial,” suggested u/5050Clown.

“I definitely get more wheezy in cold, dry air,” replied u/vocalfreesia. “Masks are brilliant for me, I’ve needed less refills of my rescue inhaler this year.”

“My stepdad who is also my boss has asthma. We regularly wear N95 masks at work for 8-10 hours a day to filter out dust. No problems,” agreed u/The_BusFromSpeed.

The general consensus in the comments was that this anti-masker was just trying to be difficult, and many people actually expressed support for the officer’s patience.

“This makes me want to move to England,” wrote u/PollyWannaCrackRock. “I would proudly support police if they always behaved like this.”

Unfortunately, no one had any insight as to what happened with the anti-masker in question, but these people have a way of going viral more than once when they’re recording their own anti-masking shenanigans, so we may very well see him again.
