Mike Pence did his best to “own the libs” during a speech at a Florida rally on Tuesday, but one of his statements didn’t have quite the sting he thought it would.

Encouraging supporters to “stay in the fight, to be a check on what the Democrats and the radical left want to do,” Pence then started rattling off empty phrases intended to compare Republicans and Democrats.

“Our agenda’s about American greatness. Their agenda’s about American decline,” he said, as the crowd booed in agreement. “Where we cut taxes, rolled back regulation, and advanced freedom, their agenda is higher taxes, open borders, socialized medicine, the Green New Deal, and abortion on demand.”

Pence paused as the crowd, again, booed loudly in denouncement of the Democrats. “They want to make rich people poorer. And poor people more comfortable,” he continued.

This time, as the outgoing vice president paused for the booing he had come to anticipate, it did not come.

Pence eventually recovered by claiming that Republicans want to “make every American richer,” but the pause stretched out long enough for questions to rise up.

Others jumped right to mocking Pence for clearly thinking making poor people comfortable is a bad thing.

Still others just wanted him to keep talking, dig that hole a little deeper.

Way to own the libs by making them seem reasonable and well-intentioned, Mike! You really did it this time.
