Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is, predictably, furious on Twitter after the storming of the U.S. Capitol by Trump supporters on Wednesday. She, along with many others, have demanded accountability from certain Republicans who have supported the outgoing president in his efforts to overturn the election which led to what many are characterizing as an attempted coup.

Naturally, one of the targets is Senator Ted Cruz, who got into a whole Twitter feud with Ocasio-Cortez, calling her a liar after she called on him to take responsibility for his actions.

“Sen. Cruz, you must accept responsibility for how your craven, self-serving actions contributed to the deaths of four people yesterday. And how you fundraised off this riot,” said Ocasio-Cortez before calling on Cruz and Senator Josh Hawley to resign.
Cruz responded by calling his and fellow Senators’ actions “doing our jobs” and then changed the subject to all the things he doesn’t like about progressive Democrats. That’s when AOC busted out the receipts.
“Oh – you’re accusing me of lying?” she responded. “Isn’t this you? Your campaign sent out this fundraising message as people were sieging the Capitol. You claimed to be ‘leading the fight to reject electors.'”

Ocasio-Cortez included a screenshot of the campaign text, which indeed claims to be directly from Ted Cruz and with a timestamp over two hours after the assault on the Capitol began.
“Your complete refusal to acknowledge any of the above harm, wrongdoing, or even misjudgement; & your lack of any self-reflection in how these acts contributed to yesterday’s chaos is alarming,” she said in a follow-up tweet. “It is unbecoming of any elected official and makes you unfit for the office you occupy.”
Cruz responded claiming that he told his team to stop fundraising within minutes of the start of the attack, but apparently they didn’t listen. He also doubled down on calling the assertion that his support of the conspiracy theories that directly led to the riot had anything to do with the riot.
However, Rep. Ocasio-Cortez wasn’t the only one with receipts.

“I’ll stand shoulder to shoulder with you as we defend the United States of America, as we defend our constitution, as we defend our freedom, and we will not go quietly into the night,” Cruz says in the video posted by Aaron Rupar. “We will defend liberty and the future, and we are going to win.”
Even fellow Republicans have come out against Cruz on this, including the far-right Senator Tom Cotton who is so extreme that some on the left fear he could become a more palatable Donald Trump in 2024.
“You have some senators who, for political advantage, were giving false hope to their supporters [and] misleading them to believe somehow yesterday’s actions in Congress could reverse the results of the election,” he said in a Fox News interview. “That was never going to happen yet these senators, as insurrectionists literally stormed the Capitol, were sending out fundraising emails.”

Though he didn’t directly name Cruz, we all know who he was talking about.
Cruz has not tweeted since Thursday after news broke that a Capitol police officer had died from injuries sustained from an altercation with one of the Trump rioters.
