Abortion is still one of the most divisive issues facing our country. Republican politicians seem to be able to do any number of reprehensible things but their conservative, religious constituents will continue to vote for them for the sole reason that they are against abortion.

But the history of religious opposition to abortion is a lot more complicated than the modern claim that life begins at conception.

And one man standing outside a clinic as part of a line of defense against the ire of abortion protestors wanted to make sure they were clear on that.
“Before the 1970s, your church did not care about abortion and in fact believed that life begins at breath,” the man, whose name is Andrew, told an array of maskless protestors. “And while I do not think that a bunch of Jesus worshippers should have a f—king thing to say about healthcare when it’s not their own bodies, at least that position was consistent with your scripture.”

Andrew’s passionate rebuttal to their cruelty and harassment continued, as he pointed out that the church’s pivot to being anti-abortion actually has roots in the church’s history of pushing to maintain segregation in schools.

“You don’t think that there are any babies dying in there,” he said of the clinic. “You’re not stupid people. But you are deceptive and dishonest people. You are people who should be ashamed of yourselves because your lie affects these patients.

“You are terrorizing them. Why the f—k do you think we need to be out here? In a city full of work that actually needs to be done, we are wasting our time defending people from you, because y’all are menacing them.”

The video, originally shared to TikTok by a pro-choice advocate named Jaicie who was out there with Andrew, quickly went viral across social media, with people calling Andrew a “hero”

Andrew, however, wanted to keep the focus on people who are actually at risk for having their reproductive rights stripped away, and shared this video in response to the public reaction:

The original TikTok appears to be drawing attention to the work activists are doing to keep clinics that offer abortion services functional and safe from Christian extremists who feel the need to harass women in their free time.
Both Andrew’s TikTok and Jaicie’s TikTok have a wealth of information available regarding what they’re doing in their area, and how much opposition they regularly face from these groups.
