After several weeks of publicity surrounding some of the outrageous things freshman Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has said and done over the past few years, the House of Representatives voted on Thursday to strip her of her committee assignments.

Many have questioned whether the “QAnon Congresswoman” is fit to serve in Congress at all, after a video of her harassing Parkland shooting survivor David Hogg began circulating, alongside social media posts that showed her support for the execution of Democratic leaders and beliefs in absolutely bizarre conspiracy theories.

But Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy refused to remove Greene from her committees, forcing Democrats to bring the issue to a vote.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer gave a passionate argument against Greene prior to the vote, putting a Facebook ad Greene ran prior to her election on display.

The ad showed her holding an AR-15 alongside pictures of representatives Ilhan Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Rashida Tlaib, calling herself the “squad’s worst nightmare.” Hoyer condemned the ad along with the divisiveness and violence Greene has promoted.

Ultimately, 11 Republicans broke from party lines and agreed that Greene’s behavior has been reprehensible, stripping her of her committee assignments.

The fact that she actually faced minor consequences for her actions, particularly at a time where “consequences” vs “letting it go” is a subject of national debate when it comes to Republicans, has left some folks feeling relieved.

But others are concerned it’s too little, too late — especially with the overwhelming majority of Republicans choosing to stand by Greene, putting party and power over everything else.

As for Greene, she failed to apologize for her actions and beliefs, instead attempting to sweep everything under the rug and pass the blame. And following the vote, she has made it clear that she has learned absolutely nothing.
