There have been a lot of reports about Donald Trump’s mood after he revved up his supporters on January 6th and then sent them off to the Capitol to try and murder his vice-president. Mainly, he was supposedly “delighted.”

Now, CNN reports that he was well-aware of the danger everyone was in, including other House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy, who was able to scream at him over the phone.

Multiple people described the call between McCarthy and Trump, saying that the House Republican told Trump to call off his mob.
“Well, Kevin, I guess these people are more upset about the election than you are,” Trump told him.
McCarthy was pretty pissed at this dismissive response and told Donald that the rioters were trying to break through the windows of his office.
“Who the f–k do you think you are talking to?” McCarthy asked the president. The phone call sounds pretty exciting, but it could also potentially be an aspect of the impeachment trial because it shows Trump had no intention of intervening with the rioters.

One Republican Congress member told CNN, “He is not a blameless observer, he was rooting for them.”
Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, a Republican from Washington state, was aware of the conversation as well and is one of the ten House Republicans who voted to impeach Trump last month.
“You have to look at what he did during the insurrection to confirm where his mind was at,” said Beutler. “That line right there demonstrates to me that either he didn’t care, which is impeachable, because you cannot allow an attack on your soil, or he wanted it to happen and was OK with it, which makes me so angry.”

While Trump’s lawyer seems to be doing a good job of making the former president ridiculous, it’s unclear if he will actually be convicted. Maybe it depends on how many congressional republicans he personally insulted on the phone as his mob closed in.
