Celebrity lawyer Alan Dershowitz has officially nominated Jared Kushner for a Nobel Peace Prize for allegedly helping to negotiate the “Abraham Accords”—a series of deals between Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Sudan, and Morocco. Dershowitz is known for representing individuals such as Donald Trump, Jeffrey Epstein, and Harvey Weinstein.

The bar for nominating someone for a Nobel Peace Prize is surprisingly low, but even this seems like too low an entry for such a prestigious honor according to many on Twitter.

While the Abraham Accords have been recognized as significant, the deal has not been immune to criticism. Experts have noted the conspicuous absence of more than a passing mention of Israel’s systematic takeover of Palestinian land and destruction of homes and olive trees in what many see as an ongoing genocide effort.

But while there is an argument to be made that the Abraham Accords have led to increased peace between the nations involved, Kushner’s role in the alleged Russian interference in the 2016 election and overall relationship with Donald Trump has people questioning whether this nomination is appropriate.

Kushner was also dubbed the “Slumlord Millionaire” in an episode of Netflix’s Dirty Money series that found hundreds of complaints filed against his rental properties. Many complaints alleged serious violations, “including the presence of lead paint, lung carcinogens, and fire safety hazards.” He was cited multiple times by the New York City Housing Authority for violating the law but apparently did not often bother to follow up to collect fine payments.

Imagine if it was like that for the rest of us when it comes to minor parking violations or dodging subway fares.

The series also found that Kushner Companies failed to obtain Certificates of Occupancy, required documents proving a building is safe to live in, for many of its properties. The New York government has been accused of looking the other way on these violations, but made sure to allow Kushner to garnish the wages of a single mother for breaking her lease even though she had obtained written permission from the building manager.

After being given so much power over so many aspects of our government, it’s also hard to deny Kushner’s role in the botched response to the coronavirus pandemic that has caused over 450,000 deaths in the U.S. so far.

These and many other accusations of corruption and general stepping on little people to make more millions don’t strike many as the actions of someone deserving of a Nobel Peace Prize.
