When Joe Biden won the presidency, there was a lot of excitement from animal lovers that the White House would have dogs in residence yet again. Champ and Major joined their humans and seem to be loving their new lives on federal grounds, with Major even being the first presidential rescue dog.

But in their desperate quest to paint every Democrat in a bad light, Newsmax decided to go after the Biden’s other dog, Champ, in a confounding segment that angered dog lovers everywhere.

“I wanted to show you something I noticed,” host Greg Kelly told viewers, pulling up a photo of Champ lounging happily on the ground. “Doesn’t he look a little rough?”

Kelly seemed to be trying to insinuate that Biden and his administration were neglecting the dog, before bringing in historians to talk about how much better George H. W. Bush’s dog was than Champ.

“This dog looks like…from the junkyard,” Kelly said. “He looks like he’s not being well cared for.”

“He looks dirty and disheveled and very unlike a presidential dog,” one of the guests said.

It’s such a pathetic and transparent reach, to attack the looks of the first White House rescue dog under a guise of concern, while talking up a former Republican’s spaniel.

And it prompted a strong defense of Champ online, because seriously, who sinks so low as to insult dogs in the quest for political relevancy?

The decision to randomly claim the Biden’s aging dog is poorly cared for — something that’s essentially impossible with all the resources of the White House at hand — is particularly egregious on the heels of finding out Ted Cruz left his dog at home all alone when he escaped to Cancun as Texas suffered power outages and freezing temperatures.

Even MSNBC hit back at Newsmax for their poor judgment in doing the segment.

This is the conservative news network that wants to challenge Fox News for its hold on red America. So we really can always sink lower.
