While the Republican party is doing its best not to look like a fascist party who would encourage its supporters to launch a violent coup to keep a charismatic (in a way) leader in place, but they overlooked a key detail at this year’s CPAC, allegedly.

Unfortunately for them, somebody noticed that the main stage looks extremely similar to a Nordic rune that was favored by the original Nazis around WWII.

Other than being upside-down, yes, the stage does look as though that rune as it was adapted by the SS and meant to represent “kinship, family and blood unity.” One of the SS divisions that favored this rune was specifically responsible for maintaining the “racial purity” of the Nazi party.
Is this stage’s resemblance to a Nazi symbol used by the worst parts of the SS a coincidence? Probably, but people are having a hard time swallowing that after more than four years of similar coincidences and “accidents” and an actual GOP representative knowingly and openly quoting Hitler.

Not to mention how many neo-Nazis were spotted at the pro-Trump insurrection in January. And according to the Guardian, the lighting display on the ceiling matched the shape of the stage. Still, right-wingers like American Conservative Union chair Matt Schlapp defended defended his fellow Republicans and their stage.
“Stage design conspiracies are outrageous and slanderous,” said Schlapp. “We have a long standing commitment to the Jewish community. Cancel culture extremists must address antisemitism within their own ranks. CPAC proudly stands with our Jewish allies, including those speaking from this stage.
Meanwhile, left-wingers were digging up photos from the 2017 Charlottesville riots that saw neo-Nazis marching through the streets with torches chanting “Jews will not replace us.”

It’s also difficult to take the likes of Schlapp seriously when Senator Josh Hawley, famous for that photo of him giving the raised fist to insurrectionists, was standing on it calling for a “new nationalism” in the U.S.
“In this moment of crisis, our country needs us to stand up and to say, ‘We will not be ruled by giant corporations and the liberal elite,'” he said to the CPAC crowd. “We will not be told what to do by these modern day oligarchs. What we need is a new nationalism, a new agenda to make the rule of the people real in this country, and give the people [inaudible 00:10:01] back.”
People have also been unable to avoid noticing that the “feet” of the rune, which were specifically added by the Nazis in their adaptation, doesn’t seem to serve any practical purpose as part of the stage.

Good luck explaining that one away, Republicans.
