A Texas woman was arrested for refusing to wear a mask last week, and had the added embarrassment of bystanders refuting her claims of “police brutality” during the incident.

Governor Greg Abbott may have lifted statewide mask requirements, but privately owned businesses are still as free to require them as they always have been — something anti-maskers have failed to grasp throughout the pandemic. Just as they can refuse patrons’ business for failure to wear a shirt or shoes, they can turn them away for failing to wear a mask.

Bank of America was still requiring its customers to mask up, but 65-year-old Terry Wright wasn’t interested. She refused to comply, and presumably, a police officer was called to deal with her.
Footage of the altercation was captured in full by the officer’s body cam.
An employee points him in the direction of the unmasked woman and the two get right down to business — the officer tells White she’ll have to leave if she doesn’t abide by the rules, while Wright points out masks aren’t required by state law.

“Businesses have the right to refuse service,” the officer says.
She continues arguing with him and essentially challenges him to arrest her. The officer maintains his composure throughout but tells her he’ll have to do just that if she won’t leave or put on a mask.
“That’s hilarious,” Wright says.
She then accuses him of having “issues” and “taking away people’s human rights.”
He makes a move to handcuff her and Wright starts asking everyone at the bank if he’s “going to shoot me.”

She walks away from him, starts yelling, and aggressively resists arrest until the officer has to force her to the floor to get her in cuffs.
“Is anybody gonna like, get real here?” she asks the room, looking for someone to condemn the officer’s actions and defend her. “Police brutality, right here people.”
And that finally gets a response from the other customers, who echo variations of “no it’s not,” much to Wright’s disappointment.
“Wow. What a bunch of sheep,” she complains.

Wright ultimately did go to the hospital complaining of foot pains, though it’s unclear from the video how she sustained those injuries, which were minor according to police.
According to The Washington Post, Wright believes she was “attacked” and “compared mask requirements to the way that Nazi Germany forced Jewish people to identify themselves with a Star of David.”
“I feel like I took one for the team, because people need to wake up,” she said.
A warrant was issued for her arrest over trespassing and resisting arrest.
