Pop icon Britney Spears is not known for getting political, but as the trial against Officer Derek Chauvin for the murder of Minneapolis man George Floyd comes to a close, she’s taking a stand.

Spears revealed she was in support of the Black Lives Matter movement with a surprising Instagram post, sharing a photo originally posted by user @jrwmb. The black and white photo shows a young Black man in a mask holding a sign that reads, “White people have generational wealth, Black people have generational trauma. #WeAreNotTheSame! #BLM.”

She captioned the image with the classic peppy online girl catchphrase, “Just sayin’,” and added the #BLM and #BlackLivesMatter hashtags.
On Twitter, Britney’s post is being screenshot and shared far and wide with enthusiasm. Fans are very excited to see their queen use her platform to speak on serious issues, especially when it’s so unlike her usual goofy clothes and exercise posts. It’s nice to find out you’re a fan of someone who has views that align with yours:

That’s on Twitter. Britney’s Instagram post has a horrendous comment section. Though there are many people who are celebrating her statement, there are lots and lots of white people absolutely losing it over the concept of generational wealth. They think because they are poor, there’s no truth to the idea that white people have generational wealth:

The statement, however, refers to the wealth gap between Black and white families across the U.S., which is very real no matter what is in an individual white person’s bank account. This might be more critical thinking than racists in the comments can handle.
Some have moved on to conspiracy theories, convinced that this post is more “evidence” that Britney is being controlled by her team. The #FreeBritney movement was the subject of a recent documentary about how Britney’s money is controlled by her father through a manipulative conservatorship.
Racists want to conveniently believe this is her dad posting for some reason:

It’s more likely that Britney Spears is recognizing social injustice as she sees it. While her situation can’t compare to the average person’s in any way, being repressed by forces outside your control would make anyone more compassionate. It should, anyway.
