LeBron James Fires Back At Bar Owner Who Banned NBA Games Over His Tweets

There’s nothing conservatives seem to hate more than celebrities who have actual opinions and voice them publicly rather than shut up and entertain. And one bar owner is making his “celebrities aren’t people” stance perfectly clear with a decree that NBA games won’t be shown at his place at all until LeBron James is cut from the league.

James has often been forthright about his beliefs, but he stirred up some controversy recently while tweeting about the police shooting of Ma’Khia Bryant. “You’re next,” he wrote alongside a photo of the cop who shot the 16-year old, before deleting the tweet and explaining that he wants the same thing from cops he’s spoken about in the past—accountability.

Prior to that, the Lakers star had also praised the guilty verdict in the case against Derek Chauvin for the murder of George Floyd and slammed an attempt at voter suppression happening in Arizona.

At some point along the line, Jay Linneman decided James sharing his opinions on Twitter was egregious enough that he needed to ban NBA games from Linne’s Pub in Cincinnati, Ohio, altogether.

“If anyone wants to watch an NBA game, don’t come to Linnie’s Pub,” he wrote on Facebook. “We will not air them until Lebron James has been expelled from the NBA.”

Linneman also shared that he doesn’t think basketball players’ opinions really matter and that they “just need to play the game and that’s it.”

Obviously Linneman—like James—is welcome to his opinions, but saying people shouldn’t have or share them publicly just because they’re sports stars is beyond tired.

But James took it in stride, even lightly mocking the man on Twitter after his post went viral.

Plenty of other folks subscribe to the “shut up and entertain” approach to celebrities and were quick to tell James as much in the comments. But others defended him and suggested it was the bar owner’s turn to chill.

No matter how you spin it, it’s amusing that the side complaining all day and night about cancel culture are the ones trying to cancel someone…again.
