A video out of the U.K. has gained enough fame to hop across the pond and elsewhere as an ideal example of how to deal with entitled customers who demand free stuff because they had to wait longer than expected for their cheap fast food.

Footage taken by the driver next to a woman who has been dubbed a “Karen” shows the couple complaining that they waited for their McDonald’s order for 25 minutes and refusing to take their food unless they’re given something for free to make up for the wait.
Anybody who has ever worked in food service knows that restaurants like McDonald’s are barely held together by the sheer will and need for money of their underpaid workers, and delays are often caused by malfunctioning equipment or simply the long lines at peak hours. Employees do their best, but are often so overworked and barely paid enough to care that it doesn’t take much to push them over the edge into no longer giving a single crap.

This particular video starts as the McDonald’s worker hands the order to the Karen in the passenger seat as she elects to complain rather than taking the bag.
“Do you know we’ve been waiting like 25 minutes for this food?” she asks.
The worker looks to the side and shrugs.
“What do you want me to do?” he says.
“Some free juice or something,” the driver can be heard saying.
“Yeah, give us some free food or something,” says the woman.
The employee directs them to speak to the manager if they have an issue and says he’s a new employee. Judging by his accent, it’s possible he is yet unfamiliar with the entitlement of certain U.K. natives when it comes to having to wait to be fed.

As the couple continues to demand free food, he starts to laugh and even jumps up and down a bit as he cracks up.
“You must think this is a joke, you want this food for free. What do you think this is, a charity?” he asks, laughing. “Take the food, please.”
The Karen still refuses to take it and the couple continue to insist on free stuff as she starts to complain that it’s cold and saying that the food must be cold, though how they would know without touching the bag is a mystery. The worker points out that it is indeed cold outside and he would like to just give them their order and head back inside where it’s warm.
The couple will not stop saying over and over that they waited for 25 minutes no matter how many times the worker says he doesn’t care.
“You could have been waiting for 10 hours, I don’t care,” he says.
Finally, he opens up the bag, grabs a handful of fries, pulls his mask down, and starts eating them. As they complain about this, with the Karen claiming “this is why corona happened” (not that she had a mask on at any point in the video), he takes out one of their sandwiches and tosses it through the window, then makes a half-hearted attempt to toss the rest of the bag in the car as he walks away.
Finally, Karen gets out of the car to go complain to the manager, we assume.
Though it’s unclear if or how any of this was resolved or what happened to the employee, commenters on YouTube seem to widely agree that he should be given a medal for doing what so many of us have dreamed of doing.

“Absolute legend, I’d shake his hand but I don’t do that after 2020,” said one commenter. “Hopefully this dude runnin’ his own McDonald’s by now.”
