Candace Owens lashed out at Chrissy Teigen after the model opened up to her Instagram followers about being depressed regarding all the controversies that have surrounded her this year.

“[It] just feels so weird to pretend nothing happened in this online world but feel like utter shit in real life,” Teigen wrote on Wednesday. “Going outside sucks and doesn’t feel right, being at home alone with my mind makes my depressed head race. But I do know that however I’m handling this now isn’t the right answer.”

Teigen came under scrutiny for her online bullying of Courtney Stodden several years ago when they were just a teenager, after Stodden mentioned it in an interview back in May.

Since then, Teigen apologized on Twitter (though Stodden claimed Teigen never reached out personally) and later posted a much longer apology to Medium after a period of social media silence. Another controversy involving designer Michael Costello bubbled up shortly after, but the legitimacy of his accusations has been heavily called into question.

Even in her most recent Instagram post, Teigen doesn’t shy away from responsibility for her actions, although some have felt her comments cross the line into performative self-flagellation.

“Cancel club is a fascinating thing and I have learned a whollllle lot. Only a few understand it and it’s impossible to know til you’re in it,” she wrote. “And it’s hard to talk about it in that sense because obviously you sound whiney when you’ve clearly done something wrong. It just sucks. There is no winning. But there never is here anyhow.”

Conservative commentator Candace Owens is, unsurprisingly, among those who are not interested in entertaining Teigen’s thoughts on depression or bullying.

It also isn’t the first time Owens addressed the Teigen controversy and subsequent apology.

If you can’t quite place the connection between Cuba and Teigen, it’s likely because it exists only in Owens’s head as an excuse to pile on.

Other folks on Twitter had criticisms of the post at the ready as well, albeit not created by Mad Libs as Owens’ seemed to be.

Despite the criticisms still circulating of Teigen, both valid and not, she has received a fair amount of support and concern from commenters and friends on Instagram. And while the detractors saying Teigen could, and perhaps should, simply stay offline and stop commenting on everything may have a point, the same could easily be said about people taking aim at someone being open about their mental health struggles.
