Eric Trump went on Fox News on Tuesday and told Sean Hannity that random people are coming up to him in the street, hugging him, and telling him with tears in their eyes how much they miss his dad being president. He claimed that it had been happening a lot for the past week in particular, though it’s not clear from clips exactly what is supposed to be so bad right now that it has people allegedly crying for Donald Trump.

“I can tell you, more people have come up to me on the street in the last week saying: ‘We miss him so much,’” said Eric. “I mean, literally sometimes, Sean, with tears in their eyes. ‘We miss the man so much.’ No matter what you say about him, he loves this country and he’s willing to fight for this country.”

What is clear is that Eric Trump and Hannity were discussing a possible 2024 run for the current one-termer after losing the 2020 election to Joe Biden. The Trump son suggested that there is a “very, very good chance” that his dad will be running, as Donald himself has promised and hinted at since he left the White House after a failed bid to overturn the election results.
Although the Trumps have a long and storied history of lying for political gain, it doesn’t seem outside the realm of possibilities that Eric could be telling the truth for once. The Trump fervor has perhaps died down in some respects, but among his die-hard fans, it’s still alive and well. There are still people clinging to QAnon conspiracy theories that he will return in majestic triumph after smiting his enemies, while others continue to display their Trump merchandise in anticipation of a 2024 run.
Still, many are having a hard time believing Eric’s sidewalk cry-hugging story, or regardless are using it as a prime opportunity to make fun of him and his dad, who is currently residing in Florida and remains banned from all major social media platforms for inciting the January 6 insurrection.
For example, according to Vox journalist Aaron Rupar, Eric made this claim on air just before it was revealed to the public that the Trump Organization, of which Eric is a part, is now officially under a criminal investigation.
“We have informed the Trump Organization that our investigation into the company is no longer purely civil in nature,” said New York Attorney General’s office spokesperson Fabien Levy. “We are now actively investigating the Trump Organization in a criminal capacity, along with the Manhattan DA.”

Eric may need to shed some of his own tears now, and get some real hugs, since his dad is no longer in any position to pardon him.
