People have been panic-buying gas across the U.S., after a cyber attack on Colonial Pipeline caused them to briefly shut down. This caused a hitch in the gas supply, but a relatively minor one, according to Popular Mechanics. The real issue is people lining up at the gas station to get into fights and hoard enormous amounts of gas.

Since most people are ill-prepared for storing massive amounts of gasoline, that means the pumps have been seeing some really stupid stuff.

Despite knowing that, this video posted by u/mitchollow on r/PublicFreakout is pretty shocking. In the viral clip, the videographer is confronting a man in flip-flops filling what looks like a whole lot like garbage-bag-lined laundry baskets with loose gasoline. Gas puddles are all over the floor, and if the videographer is to be believed, at least one of them is leaking.
The woman filming tries to warn the guy that he needs to be storing the gas in proper containers:
As he talks, the guy relentlessly continues to make a mess doing something incredibly dangerous:
All the man will say for himself is that there is a “gas shortage,” which doesn’t really justify risking setting everything on fire:
Eventually, the videographer says that she will go get the manager, which is actually a good use of the Karen mantra:
The man clearly skipped chem class: gasoline can go bad, as parts of it evaporate—especially if you are not keeping it in a gas-safe container. Bad gas will ruin your engine, and filling your garage up with giant vats of unsealed gasoline will probably do a whole bunch of other horrible things to the space and everyone around it— if it doesn’t blow up first.
Be safe out there, kids. Better to have to stay home with no gas for a bit than watch your truck explode.
