Fox News Is Upset That Captain America Is *Checks Notes* Too ‘Political’

In case you thought the folks at Fox News couldn’t get even more out of touch with reality, they’re now deeply upset that Captain America is being “politicized.”

A segment aired on the network Tuesday in which they pulled far right podcaster and comedian Michael Loftus to bemoan the state of Captain America comics.

“Captain America—he’s the enduring symbol of the U.S. What is happening?” the anchor asks.

“It’s so sad when Captain America is now like, Captain Woke, or Captain Propaganda,” Loftus replies. “Did I miss an issue where he was kidnapped by liberal arts professors and forced to move to Portland?”

Well, no, but apparently he did miss the entire basis of Captain America, a guy who punches Nazis and upholds democracy.

So what is it that got these guys so riled up?

In a recent issue of The United States of Captain America, Captain America ruminates on the meaning of “The American Dream,” and comes to the conclusion that when not everyone is able to benefit from a system, it can’t be called a collective dream or aspiration.

“When something isn’t shared, it can become the American Lie,” he says. “A while back, we told the world they could come here for a better life, but too often we turn our backs on them. Instead of a dream, they get handed a raw deal.”

But the far-right has turned this into another “X hates America” scandal, with Fox News leading the charge.

“This is pretty insidious. They don’t want the right to have any heroes,” Loftus lamented. “Gone are the days of the lone hero and self-reliance. They have to tear that down and make us question everything.”

But Captain America hasn’t changed—not really. If far-right extremists can no longer find common ground with a fictional patriotic superhero who has always fought for what’s right, and for everybody, then they’re the ones who need to do some soul-searching.

And Twitter users were more than happy to point that out.

If right-wingers want to swear off Captain America (while simultaneously complaining about cancel culture…go figure), that’s perfectly fine. But if they hang around for a bit, maybe they’ll actually learn something about patriotism and values that mean more than some catchy slogan.
