Gen Z has a reputation for being the most politically engaged and “woke” group of youths to grace the earth in quite a while, and TikTok has often been the platform where they gather to organize and therapize. But that may just be a very small subset of people because I gotta say, the straights are not okay even if they are just graduating high school.

The TikTok itself is pretty basic, showing Mason and a friend sucking soda with the words, “Girls if you need toxic things to say to boys check the comments” hovering above them.
This TikToker is a genius for engagement! There are so, so many comments from young women who have been hurt and who have found a way to hurt back. At first, I thought for a second that Mason was asking for toxic things people should stop saying, like jokes about men not having bed frames. Nope. It’s just nasty thing after nasty thing to say to someone you are dating but seem to hate.
And the truth is—sometimes you do need something mean to say, as horrible as that is to admit. But I hope anyone using these comments moves on soon after, unpacks their trauma, and starts dating someone they don’t have to defeat.
