Mark and Patricia McCloskey made themselves infamous when they stepped on their porch to brandish guns at Black Lives Matter protestors walking through their St. Louis neighborhood. On Thursday, BuzzFeed reports they plead guilty to misdemeanor charges, and are required to pay fines of $750 and $2,000 and hand over their weapons to be destroyed.

The couple was initially facing felony charges, but a special prosecutor named Richard Callahan was assigned on May 17th negotiated to the lesser charges as part of a plea agreement. Mark McCloskey plead guilty to assault in the fourth degree and Patricia McCloskey pleaded guilty to harassment in the second degree.

“This particular resolution of these two cases represents my best judgement of an appropriate and fair disposition for the parties involved as well as the public good,” Callahan said in a statement.
Though the general public seemed disgusted with the McCloskeys’ behavior in the summer of 2020, they do not have any criminal record. They were also offered lesser charges because they didn’t fire any shots and called the police before pointing loaded guns at people—though I don’t know what else anyone would expect from these people.
The viral infamy seems to have helped them overall, as they’ve been given a platform on conservative news outlets and were even featured as speakers at the 2020 Republican National Convention.
Mark McCloskey is even running for Senate as a representative of Missouri, and he talked about the way he threatened protestors with guns constantly as part of his campaign. His slogan is “I will never back down.”
After the plea deal was announced, his campaign shared a statement in which he lied about what happened in 2020 and in the case against himself and his wife.
“One year ago, an angry mob crashed through my gate, and threatened my wife, my family, and my home,” he lyingly lied.
He acknowledged accusations that he and his wife pulled out their guns to “put other people in imminent fear of physical harm.”

Then he bragged, “That’s exactly what I did, that’s what the guns were for. And any time the mob comes and threatens me, I’ll do the same thing again to protect my family.”
Then I guess we’ll be seeing him in court again.
