A viral video shows a scene that would have almost certainly ended so much worse for a Black person in which a white man cusses out a police officer for giving him a traffic ticket and then speeds away, allegedly clipping the officer with his car, and then screaming for help when he gets arrested for it.

Although the man has not been identified, YouTube account “Karens in the Wild” labeled him with their preferred male version of the name, “Daren,” and local sources say the incident occurred in Grande Prairie, Alberta, which would explain his Canadian accent.

The footage, shot by the man’s wife in the passenger seat, shows him giving the finger to the officer as he approaches the window.

“I’m waiting for your boss to call me,” says the man after the officer knocks on the window. “F— off and get in your car.”

So much for the Canadian politeness stereotype.

After a few moments and more knocking, Daren rolls down his window a crack to snatch the ticket from the cop’s hands and call him a homophobic slur.

“You’re a f—ing little b—h, give me my ticket and go f— yourself, goofball f—in’ f—-t. F— you. F— off, you b—h!” he says as he starts to speed away. The officer can be heard shouting something at him before Daren screams one more parting shot out the window: “You’re a f—in’ clown!”

Seconds later, as his wife shows her face in the video, she can be heard making fun of the cop for what is about to be the reason her husband ends up in handcuffs.

“You like pushed him, ‘you just hit me!’” she says, mocking the officer’s voice.

The video jumps ahead a bit to show that they’ve been pulled over once again, and soon this Daren and Karen have changed their tune.

“He’s got his gun on me now, the RCMP officer has his gun on me now,” says the man into the phone in which he claimed to be calling the cop’s boss. The officer pounds on the driver’s side window and orders him to come out as Daren complains about it, then breaks it to force him out, saying he’s under arrest for assaulting a police officer while pointing what looks like a taser at him.

At this point, the couple is yelling for the police to “send help” as the officer opens the door and handcuffs Daren while another cop car pulls up in front of them, with Daren yelling that the arresting officer is “tripping balls.” At one point his wife seems to say that the officer had a cut on his hand.

According to CTV News, the couple was originally pulled over for “stunting,” which is a traffic violation in Canada defined as when drivers “perform or engage in any stunt or other activity on a roadway that is likely to distract, startle, or interfere with other users of the roadway.” Daren was pulled over twice in a row on the same charge, and then a third for bumping the officer with his car as he sped away.

He now faces four charges—two for stunting, one for assault, and one for “possession of a weapon for a purpose dangerous to the public.” He’s scheduled to appear in court on July 21.
