While the Wednesday vote by the U.S. House of Representatives to create an independent commission on the Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol attack was technically bipartisan, plenty of Republicans voted against it. And that got Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio) mad enough to rant about the vote on the House floor, landing him into social media as well as on the news.

Ryan’s rant was even posted to r/PublicFreakout, a Reddit subreddit billed as “dedicated to people freaking out, melting down, losing their cool, or being weird in public.” While the video was tagged as a “justifiable freakout,” it was also titled, “Tim Ryan of Ohio has had enough of your shit.”

The clip begins with Ryan thanking those Republicans who broke ranks and voted with the Democrats on the bill, which ended up passing 252-175 in the people’s chamber.
Then, he unloads on what he calls “to the other 90% of our friends on the other side of the aisle,” starting with, “Holy cow! Incoherence! No idea what you’re talking about!”
He then brings up Benghazi, noting that “you guys chased the former secretary of state all over the country, spent millions of dollars”—referring to “the 2012 terrorist attack on a U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya, which left four Americans dead,” NBC News noted. That article added, “Critics largely said it was a political move against Hillary Clinton. The investigation concluded in 2016, costing about $7 million, and it did not suggest that Clinton was personally responsible for or could have prevented the attack when she was secretary of state.”
Ryan shifted from Benghazi to the Jan. 6 riot, pointing out, “We have people scaling the Capitol, hitting the Capitol Police with lead pipes across the head, and we can’t get bipartisanship. What else has to happen in this country?”
“This is a slap in the face to every rank and file cop in the United States,” he continued. “If we’re going to take on China, if we’re going to rebuild the country, if we’re going to reverse climate change, we need two political parties in this country that are both livin’ in reality!”
“And you ain’t one of ’em!” he finished.
Though the Reddit post was filled with a number of people who loved what Ryan had to say, including a number of people who identified as former Republicans, not everyone out there received the fiery rebuke well.
The NBC News article noted that one of the people Ryan might consider most detached from reality, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, “defended the rioters and opposed the bill. She asked why a commission was not created ‘to stop the BLM and antifa riots’ and argued that the commission” would be weaponized against former President Donald Trump and his loyalists.”

“What’s going to happen with the Jan. 6 commission is the media is going to use this to smear Trump supporters and President Trump for the next few years,” Greene said.
