Jennifer Biela posted on Facebook that she and her friend decided to take their kids up to Mackinaw City over spring break. They were booked at the Crown Choice Inn & Suites, but at around 11pm on the first night, Biela’s son discovered their bathroom was flooding.

But when she went to the front desk to ask the owner for help, she instead was told he was calling the police to “charge [her] with malicious destruction of property” and told the entire group to get out.

Halfway through the exchange, Biela pulled out her camera and started recording.

“Stop being an idiot. And start thinking with your mind.” he told her. “Stop being a Democrat, a dumb Democrat. Go to your room, pack your stuff, and leave.”

He also claimed that “it’s your bathroom now” because she rented the room, and said she was responsible for anything that happened in it.

Biela said she and her friend and their children had to drive over two hours to a nearby city in the middle of the night to find another open hotel to stay in, because the owner followed through on both kicking them out and filing a police report.

People on Twitter were horrified by the interaction on Twitter, but those familiar with the area weren’t surprised.

“When I got home I found there are terrible reviews and many complaints filed with the Better Business Bureau regarding the poor quality, cleanliness and customer service for this hotel,” Biela wrote. “There are so many beautiful places in Michigan and unfortunately this is one that’s not worth your time or money.”

She also provided a copy of the police report on Facebook and said that the charges against her were ultimately dropped.
