Anytime a megachurch pastor makes the news, you can bet it’s because people have gotten fed up with their brazen hypocrisy yet again.

This holds true for Joel Osteen, famed Texas pastor who became a multi-millionaire off leading his hapless flock. The religious leader is currently promoting his latest book, “Peaceful on Purpose,” which purports to instruct readers on how to find inner peace and stop worrying so much.

The key, Osteen said on Monday’s episode of “Today,” is that “you need to have some time to just come back to a place of peace where you’re grateful.”
“Think about what’s right, not what’s wrong,” he added. “Focus on what you do have, not what you don’t have.”
The absurdity of a guy who owns a 17,000 square foot mansion yet has gone on record claiming he lives “a very ordinary life” essentially telling those less fortunate than him to put more money in his pocket so he can tell them to be grateful they have anything at all was not lost on those who haven’t been brainwashed by Osteen’s brand of religious hypocrisy.

Of course, as he’s just doing promo for his book, he wasn’t getting asked the tough questions on air.

And Osteen’s decision to open his mouth and his wallet (to receive only, obv) has reignited conversations about how churches are taxed, not to mention the ultra-wealthy.

Focusing on the good things in your life instead of the negative isn’t bad advice in and of itself, but anyone alive could offer up that little pearl without pimping out an accompanying book. If Osteen REALLY wanted to help people find peace rather than just fill up his bank account, he could start by giving away a whole lot more money than he currently does. And he could stop being against LGBTQ rights. And maybe the next time there’s a massive natural disaster, he could actually open the doors to his church instead of slamming them shut until the backlash gets too fierce.

Just a few suggestions for a more peaceful life, Joel! Why don’t you pray on them?
