There is a whole genre of r/AmItheA–hole posts where someone’s significant other tricks them into either eating something they’re allergic to, or actual poison. But this is the first time I’ve seen someone violating another person’s religious beliefs, so now we know there’s always a new floor.

The story was posted by Redditor u/ileriatis under the title, “AITA for getting upset at my bf for putting things i dont like in my breakfast?”

The guy writing says he’s 20 years old, originally from Turkey, and was raised Muslim. He is staying with his 21-year-old boyfriend and they’re both in culinary school. They share cooking around the house. As an addendum, the OP says that he is a “progressive person” and isn’t in touch with his “uber-religious dad.” His boyfriend is aware that he has distanced himself from his religious family.

So onto the story, it was J’s turn to cook and he told me he would make breakfast for the weekend. So Saturday morning (which was my birthday) he comes to my room with some food and blindfolds me saying there is a surprise. Then he says he made something on the table and we walk there. I take a bite and it was pork. From a pig ofc. so i was of course incredibly aggravated. I took the blindfold immediately and asked why he did this. He was in hysterics and thought this was SOO funny. I told him it was disrespectful and he shouldn’t disrespect my religion. He scoffed off saying i was overreacting and that i wasn’t that religious anyway so he thought it wouldn’t be an issue.

I’m currently thinking of moving to a new room/house but my brother who i vented to is saying that’s too much of an overreaction so AITA for maybe reacting too much?

Wow! The lows are lower than ever. I feel so bad for the OP, who doesn’t even have his brother in his corner. Of course his boyfriend was wrong to put pork in his food. Even if the OP isn’t very religious now, or practicing strictly, his background is meaningful to him. His boyfriend clearly knew it was wrong, or he wouldn’t have treated the situation as a “prank.”

Thankfully, the commenters are on OP’s side and told him to definitely leave this guy. Someone violating your boundaries as a joke is only going to escalate their horrible behavior. And a few people even chimed in to say that growing up not eating certain meat can stick with you your whole life, whether or not the strong reason not to does:

Okay, no more messing with people’s food, especially people you expect to split the rent and the bed with you.
