To celebrate Pride Month, Swedish furniture company IKEA produced a series of LGBTQ+ loveseats, dubbed “Love Seats,” inspired and designed by queer and transgender individuals and their flag colors, including everything from a sleek two-spirit couch to a stylish genderfluid option.

“There’s more to Pride than a rainbow,” says IKEA on their website. “That’s why we created Love Seats – a collection of IKEA loveseats inspired by the Pride flags of different 2SLGBTQ+ identities. Designed and created by artists active in the 2SLGBTQ+ community, the loveseats are a platform to celebrate identity and share stories of love.”

However, a couple of the entries have gained particular attention for being strange, appearing uncomfortable to sit on, or, in the case of the bisexual Love Seat, viscerally horrifying.

The bisexual couch is covered in handprints in the bi flag colors as well as full arms with hands reaching over the front on the “arms” of the loveseat, and pillows that read “when you change OR to AND” and “nobody believes you.” This was inspired by a spoken word poem by Brian Lanigan about his own experience of erasure and disbelief from straight people as well as his fellow LGBTQ+ folks that he performed at the Toronto Poetry Slam finals in 2015.

As beautiful as the poem is, many couldn’t resist making jokes about both the “nobody believes you” message, which seems ominous taken out of context, as well as the literal arms on the arms of the couch that look like they might come to life and drag you to couch hell at any moment. The results were completely hilarious, and we thank Brian Lanigan for not only being an amazing poet but by inspiring a long list of jokes about the resulting loveseat (and being a great sport about it):
