A hat shop in Tennessee called hatWRKS became famous overnight for the worst possible reason, and now their business is suffering. They first gained attention for an Instagram post featuring a woman wearing a Star of David that replicated the patches Jewish people were forced to wear during Nazi-era Germany.

The patches were for sale at hatWRKS for only $5, and they convey an anti-vaxx message that is a bit confusing for anyone who is not down the conservative conspiracy rabbit hole.

At first, hatWRKS spit in the face of criticism, posting another message about the way everyone else has the wool pulled over their eyes:
“People are so outraged by my post? but are you outraged with the tyranny the world is experiencing? if you don’t understand what is happening, that is on you, not me. i pay much more respect to history by standing up with the fallen than offering silence & compliance. that is the worse [sic] crime. it was then & is now. i will delete your disgust and hope you put it where it belongs.”
Their tune has changed after several days of outrage directed their way. They also seem to have lost access to Stetson hats, which seems like a big deal in the world of hats.
The Tennessee Holler shared that the shop has posted a more appropriate apology:
It seems to have been too little too late, because this weekend a protest descended on the actual store:
People arrived with signs and banners, condemning the Nazi imagery hatWRKS was promoting:

Good on the people of Nashville for showing up to say they don’t want this sh-t in their town, but the use of Nazi symbols in the anti-vaxx movement seems to have spread to other locations, even though the comparison is not only deeply offensive, it makes no sense.

People who are vaccinated have vaccination cards and people who aren’t do not, except less defense against a deadly virus. There is no marking for being anti-vaxx! You’re the ones telling everyone that you’re morons. Feel free to keep it to yourself.
