In what feels like a very on-brand blunder for the gun-loving congresswoman, Representative Lauren Boebert posted a photo of herself with a quote by founding father and contemporary beer icon Samuel Adams while misattributing it to John Adams, the second president of the United States. The image was posted to her Twitter account on Friday and quickly deleted, presumably after someone pointed out to her that she had given quote credit to the wrong Adams.

“For true patriots to be silent, is dangerous,” said Samuel Adams in a speech in June 1776.

According to historians quoted in the Snopes entry now indefinitely encoded onto the internet for future historians to laugh at, Samuel Adams was speaking on the outrage over the Stamp Act, which created one of those taxes without representation people living in the U.S. used to get real mad about. These days, we apparently find it entirely acceptable to force people in Puerto Rico and other U.S. territories, as well as the residents of Washington D.C., to pay taxes without the benefit of government representation, but whatever.
Snopes also noted that Samuel “inherited a malting business from his father” rather than owned a tavern and was a highly respected political figure at the time, even if his image has today mostly been reduced to a mediocre beer brand.
This latest addition to a long list of public blunders on Boebert’s record really makes one wonder why she doesn’t get a better PR team, maybe with a fact-checker or two. The far-right Republican was resoundingly dragged last month for a tweet praising the Taliban after they rapidly overtook Afghanistan in an attempted dig at Joe Biden, regardless of the fact that Donald Trump was the one who ordered the U.S. troop withdrawal from the nation.
“The Taliban are the only people building back better,” she wrote in a tweet that is still up today.

Not long before that, she set herself up for a meme-lashing by attempting a Siri question jab at the attending physician of the House of Representatives, calling him a hypocrite for temporarily pulling his mask down to his chin. And who can forget about the time she claimed her “pronoun” to be “Patriot”?
These days, Boebert remains busy calling for the impeachment of Joe Biden and everyone around him after all those months claiming that impeaching a president for inciting an attempted coup at the U.S. Capitol was a ridiculous overreaction. She’s also having to contend with the recent findings that her district in Colorado has the lowest vaccination rate against COVID-19 in the state, which an investigation by Newsweek found to be absolutely true.
On top of all that, plus a documentary that’s being made about her that definitely isn’t going to come out in her favor, her Twitter mentions are now full of people making fun of her for this “Adams family” mishap.
