Rapper and artist Lil Nas X is still having plenty of fun as the release of his first studio album Montero, enjoying photoshoots and other promotions while joking around on his social media accounts in between releasing singles that have enjoyed widespread acclaim. Recently, in the most conservative-outraging promotion since the Satan Shoes, the musician put together an entire fake pregnancy photoshoot, calling the album his baby (due September 17), along with an exclusive cover story in People.

Predictably, conservatives got outraged. The idea of men being pregnant confused and infuriated them, largely thanks to their refusal to acknowledge the existence of trans men and other men who can become pregnant, with one wondering how on Earth he would explain such a thing to his son. Lil Nas himself found this lamentation to be particularly hilarious.

“I’m with freedom of whatever, but at this point Lil Nas is f—ing with the minds of kids,” complained comedian Donnell Rawlings. “What are your thoughts, how do I explain this s–t to my son?”

Thankfully for Rawlings, children are pretty familiar with the concept of dressing up and playing pretend, as is the case with Lil Nas X. They also tend to do fairly well with simple statements such as “some men can get pregnant, too.”

According to People, Lil Nas got the idea for the pregnancy photoshoot from a joke made by his stylist as they were excitedly discussing Megan Thee Stallion’s verse on his new song “Dolla Sign Slime” in which she refers to him as a father.

“I was like, ‘Oh my God, this is amazing,’ so I immediately called my stylist,” said Nas. “She was like, ‘Wow, this all comes together. Your album. Your baby.’ I was like, ‘Yeah, this is my baby, huh?’ As a joke, she was like, ‘Yeah, you should do a pregnancy shoot.’”

And so he did.

In addition to weirdos wondering how they might explain a simple concept to their kids, Lil Nas had to deal with the usual cacophony of people complaining that he was being too much, “outlandish,” and whatever else haters say when they’re super jealous. Also as usual, Nas handled it all by playing into the joke.

Meanwhile, the artist’s many fans have been working to defend him over the pregnancy photoshoot, pointing out that the idea of men being pregnant has been presented in pop culture before, often in movies and even cartoons starring straight white people. This is hardly the first time that Lil Nas, the first openly gay Black man to win a Country Music Association award, has been the target of pearl-clutching while white folks who do nearly the same thing are allowed to do so without people acting like it’s a sign of the end times.

Recently, the rapper pointed out the fact that Tony Hawk was allowed to put out a limited set of skateboards said to contain the famous skateboarder’s own blood. Somehow, Hawk, who is white, was able to avoid lawsuits and accusations of trying to corrupt the children into Satan’s hellfire army like what happened when Lil Nas released his line of “Satan Shoes,” allegedly each containing a drop of human blood.

Tony Hawk is a cool guy, so the whole thing ended in a collaboration between the two on a joke skateboard tutorial video. People complaining about the pregnancy photoshoot are not Tony Hawk, and they’re getting thoroughly reminded of that.
