The latest conspiracy theory to come out of QAnon says that the murder of Gabby Petito and the search for her fiance Brian Laundrie is a “false flag” operation, with both having been hired as “crisis actors” by the government in order to distract the public from what they consider to be the failures of President Joe Biden. Others believe it to be a distraction from something having to do with the 2020 election that’s apparently still going on in Arizona because it’s the election that never dies.

In reality, women disappear quite frequently in the U.S., often being victims of domestic violence, and this case happened to get attention because the couple was already popular on social media. This is certainly not the first high-profile disappearance and murder case to happen in the country, and it’s hard to believe that anything could distract those who already hate Biden from hyper-focusing on everything he might be doing wrong with the aid of huge media conglomerates like Fox.

Posts and comments like these started appearing on right-wing social media platforms less than one hour after news broke that a body matching Petito’s description was found near her last known whereabouts, according to Insider. The majority of theories seem to claim that the distraction is meant to be from the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan and the concurrent takeover of the nation by the Taliban, something that was set into motion by Donald Trump.
Whether or not you believe that Biden is responsible for the situation in Afghanistan or how well it was handled under the circumstances, it’s quite a feat to ignore the 24-hour coverage on networks like Fox News and OANN raking the current president over the coals for all of it. Reports of Taliban activity and fleeing refugees have continued in mainstream media outlets across the country, even if the focus on the issue has lessened to include some other important topics like climate change and murder.
Regardless, of course, the false flag theory quickly spread, with QAnon Twitter accounts jumping on the bandwagon with totally comprehensible tweets.

We had not personally heard about the alleged “666” tattoo on Laundrie’s hand, but it’s hard for us to make the connection between this and a “Zion” shirt and being crisis actors in a murder show. Seems like the government would want to avoid people with weird, suspicious tattoos if they were going to hire actors to distract people from whatever. We also hadn’t heard about the so-called “forensic audit” allegedly happening Friday, but we hope it’s as good as the last one in which the MyPillow guy’s own tech team delivered nothing because Lindel handed them “a turd.”
All this conspiracy theory seems to be doing is drawing more attention to the Petito case as normal people laugh at QAnon folks yet again. Meanwhile, Native and Black Americans and allies are busy pointing out that women in their communities disappear all the time to nearly zero public attention and without the FBI bothering to get involved, which some would call a real problem.
